About The Workshop

We are -a door to door- experience!

Our workshop begins and ends at the airport. All transportation to and from the airport as well as all shooting areas in addition to your lodging accommodations are provided and included in the workshop fee!

F-8 And Be There workshops presents a limited availability workshop in spectacular and colorful Death Valley California. Come experience the magic for yourself as documented in our DVD series. Now is your chance to photograph one of most varied and diverse places on the planet!

From , we will be photographing and exploring some of the most exciting terrain in the west. We will be chasing color and light from the lowest place in the lower 48 states to vistas over 6,000 ft above the valley floor!

Southwest photographer and host of The Master Photo Workshop DVD Every Picture Tells A Story will lead this workshop. It's size and design will lend itself the flexibility to travel and photograph the available light and color of this exciting area during our 5-day shoot.

 

This is a field photography workshop!

This workshop's size and design will provide the flexibility to travel and photograph the available terrain and color during our 5 day shoot. The principal discipline will be landscape photography in the field from well before sunrise to long after sunset. You will come back with hundreds, if not thousands of frames! There is little "down time." We want to make as much use of our time in this prized location as possible. Come and be a part of this exciting landscape with us!

Where is Death Valley?

Sandwiched between the Panamint and Funeral ranges in Eastern Central California, with portions spilling over into Nevada, Death Valley is now the largest National Park in the western hemisphere. With good roads and open spaces, it is an easy drive from Las Vegas, Nevada. Its variety and geology make it a unique experience. Its lack of rain fall and moderate temperatures make it a wondrous location in the spring.

Zabriskie Point

To my mind the most spectacular and colorful sunrise location found anywhere. The masters of landscape photography have all worked here. This one is not to be missed for any photographer. And you won't!

Dante's View

Overlooking the entire valley from an elevation of 5,475 this panorama is simply breath taking.

Badwater

The lowest place in the western hemisphere. It's salt flats and possible reflections make it photographic gem.

The Race Track

This is where the rocks slide! Rocks the size of boulders mysteriously move on this fascinating dry lake bed. A photographic experience that is prized. We'll take you there and back. No need for specialized vehicles on your own or the long route by yourself or trying to find and photograph these rocks of mystery alone. We'll show you where, when and how!

And much much more!

There is little or no downtime. We will be constantly exploring Death Valley. We'll do all that time permits in all the special places we know from previous experiences are the best possibilities at the best time!

Our days will be full and you will come back with hundreds, if not thousands of frames and lasting memories!

Magic light time on the dunes. We'll do both sunrise and sunset!

This Workshop

This workshop is small by design. It will allow for ALL levels of photographic experience. There will be no lectures or product endorsements. Personal instruction will be available at all times. The opportunity to photograph and share with the group will always be present. This is a FIELD workshop experience. We will be in the field for most of the day, everyday! A Print discussion of group's work along with a presentation of Steve's portfolio will be a part of our workshop. We will be discussing shooting strategies as well as all aspects of doing field fine art photography. Our workshops are different. Once you arrive at the airport this workshop is a -door to door- experience. Everything is taken care of!

Weather, Equipment, Etc.

Death Valley in Spring is most accommodating. The average high Max. temperature in March is 80 degrees, with an average min. low of 54. is 89 and 61. These temperatures are based at elevations below sea level. We may find temps in the 30's at sunrise at the higher elevations or even above the average during the days. It's a wonderful relief from a winter of cold and wet! Death Valley is in a rain shadow and does not receive much annual rainfall. Weather is not much of a concern here, but one can only hope! Our accommodations will provide for most battery recharging needs. You can do this trip with 35 MM, or medium format DSR and/or film gear. We simply move too quickly for most large format shooters. ....A tripod is a must!

The Schedule

We provide your lodging and all transportation from Las Vegas NV.

You will need 5 days. Two of them are weekend days.

...

Arrive Las Vegas Nevada by mid afternoon. Transportation to all locations, including the return to Las Vegas on Wednesday is provided. A sunset shoot if travel times permit. 

......

We will begin our exploration of Death Valley. Sunrise shoots will begin long before actual sunrise and take place in some of well known as well as lesser known locations. Mid day will be spent photographing the famous and not so famous of Death Valley's natural landmarks as well as many "hand of man" locations. Sunsets will see us taking advantage of beautiful light in many distant locations. From the lowest point in the lower 48 states to over 6,000 feet above the valley. From Sand Dunes to moving rocks, we will see, photograph and explore all that time will allow!

One last sunrise shoot and we're off for our return trip to Las Vegas and home

Please Remember   Death Valley is one of the most remote and inhospitable places in the world. However our accommodations will allow for comfort between long days of photographing in the field.

Sunrise from 6,000 ft!

We may be subject to road closures. The area holds many treasures at various altitudes. We will have ample substitutes if our schedule is disrupted. There will be lots of shooting and field travel. The days will most likely go from well before sunrise and end well after sunset. This is a field photography workshop. There will not be a lot of "down time! "Lots of battery power, storage capacity, film, determination, smiles and stories will be needed.

The Cost

The cost of this trip is USD $2695. This includes all transportation to and from all shooting locations as well as pick up and drop off at Las Vegas, Nevada. You are responsible for your own travel arrangements to and from Las Vegas. Your hotel accommodation is also included as part of the workshop fee. Rooms are shared, two participants to each room. A single, private room(very limited availability - sign up early! ) is an additional $795.

 

Although we will most likely eat our meals together, sometimes a break is nice. Therefore, you will be responsible for your own meals.

Bring your equipment & food money and we'll take care of the rest.

The full workshop payment of $2,695 will be required when you register. If you need to cancel a full refund (less $200) will be provided, but only if a replacement for you can be found. If we have to cancel the trip for any reason you will receive a full refund.

Wow! The Death Valley workshop was fantastic. Words alone cannot describe the awesome splendor that you helped us see. I just finished the first pass on processing my images. Now I can relax and enjoy that final sunset at the Racetrack over and over again without the pressure I felt (self-generated) at the time to capture the images. You did a great job of getting us to the right place at the right time and helped us see some of the possibilities in each location. The group was great! One of the best I've been with. It was fun to share information, feelings and experiences. I greatly enjoyed shooting with old friends and newly met friends. I hope to see them all again as I expand on my double digit workshop experience with you. It was fun to see the reactions of some who had not been to Death Valley previously as their hope for something interesting was fulfilled and then watch them be totally blown away by the beauty of the valley.
